What to Do If Your THCa Package Gets Seized (And What Actually Happens)

#1
This question shows up in every hemp community eventually, usually from someone staring at a tracking page that's been frozen for a week. Let's walk through it calmly, because 90% of these situations are way less dramatic than they feel.

First: "seized" almost never means what people fear

When tracking stalls, the overwhelming majority of the time your package is lost, misrouted, or sitting in a damaged mail pile. That's a shipping problem, not a legal one.

An actual seizure looks like one of these:
  • Tracking updates to something explicit like "Seized by Law Enforcement"
  • You receive an official letter about the package
  • The package arrives opened and resealed with an inspection notice inside

No letter, no notice, no explicit tracking status? Treat it as lost mail.

If it's actually seized, here's the reality

For a federally compliant hemp product (under 0.3% delta-9, with a COA proving it), a seizure is almost always the end of the story, not the beginning. The package gets taken, and nothing further happens to the buyer. Pursuing individual recipients of personal-use hemp packages is extremely rare. The seizure IS the consequence.

What to actually do:
  • Save everything. Order confirmation, the product page, and especially the COA for the batch you bought. That paper trail is what shows you ordered a legal hemp product in good faith.
  • Contact the vendor. Good vendors deal with this regularly and most will reship or refund, especially with a seizure notice as proof. How a vendor handles a seized or lost package tells you everything about them. Post the experience in Brands & Reviews either way.
  • Don't call the post office demanding your package back. There's no version of that call that improves your situation, and you will not be getting the package back.

The one situation that's different

If law enforcement actually contacts you directly about a package, that's the moment to stop improvising. Say nothing, sign nothing, agree to nothing, and talk to a criminal defense lawyer before you respond to anyone. That advice is boring and universal and it applies to everything, not just hemp.

The bigger lesson: know your state before you order

Most seizure horror stories start with someone ordering flower to a state where the math has turned against it. We have threads on Tennessee and Georgia in this section, and in those states the problem isn't losing a package, it's that the product itself is illegal there and possession carries real charges. No COA fixes that.

So the actual playbook is:
  • Read your state's thread in this section BEFORE ordering, not after a seizure
  • Buy from vendors with real COAs so your paper trail exists
  • If tracking stalls, assume lost mail first
  • If it's truly seized, document, contact the vendor, and move on
  • If anyone official contacts you, lawyer first, words second

Anyone here actually had a package seized? Would be useful to hear how it played out and how the vendor handled it.
